Hi heathm1,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers Community! I'm happy to help you with your question. Unfortunately, the email you listed was censored, can you please share the domain which the email came from?

In general, while Microsoft emails you about changes to the Microsoft Services Agreement (ToS) you aren't required to click anything to confirm. These emails usually originate from msa @ communication.microsoft.com. Additionally, emails regarding account security will always originate from account-security-noreply @ accountprotection.microsoft.com. Emails will almost always originate from a microsoft.com email and never from outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com, or msn.com.

I hope this helps with your question. If you share the specific domain or more information about the email, I can help further.

CORRECTION❕:

I've confirmed that msa @ communication.microsoft.com is indeed a legitimate Microsoft email address. Additionally, the email contains only links to official Microsoft sites and does not request any user information. Here are the links included:

Is Microsoft <*** Email address is removed for privacy *** a legitimate e-mail from Microsoft. It wants you to click on some terms in the e-mail which I am hesitant to do.

    Hello,

I received an email today from ******@communication.microsoft.com

stating "Update your sign-in technology before September 16^th^, 2024 to maintain email access"

Is this legitimate? It is not clear what it is asking me to do.

The safety and security of your information is top priority for Microsoft. To help keep your account secure, Microsoft will no longer support the use of third-party email and calendar apps which ask you to sign in with only your Microsoft Account username and password. To keep you safe you will need to use a mail or calendar app which supports Microsoft’s modern authentication methods. If you do not act, your third-party email apps will no longer be able to access your Outlook.com, Hotmail or Live.com email address on September 16th.

What do you need to do?

If you are receiving this email, you are currently using an email or calendar app that uses a less secure authentication method to connect to your Outlook.com email account. In many cases, simply removing and re-adding your account with the latest version of that application will configure it to use modern authentication methods.
