For the last two weeks after the last Edge update i Keep having tabs crash with Erro Code STATUS_BREAKPOINT. Usually all I need to do is refresh the page and it comes back, but it is frequent and annoying. Other times I get a website that doesn't open, with no error message, but instead I get a white page with a very tiny icon of a briefcase. I don't have a business account and no need for a business tab either. I just want my plain Edge back to normal.

    Hi 131Steve,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with Microsoft Edge after the recent update. The STATUS_BREAKPOINT error in Microsoft Edge might be due to several reasons, including conflicting extensions, corrupted cache or cookies, or issues with the latest update. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve these problems:

    1. Clear Browser Cache and Cookies: Accumulated cache or corrupted cookies might be causing conflicts. Go to "Settings" > "Privacy, search, and services" > "Choose what to clear" and select "Cached images and files" and "Cookies and other site data." Then click on "Clear now."

Disclaimer: Your browser automatically saves temporary internet files to help pages load faster. Clearing this cache will sometimes fix website issues. Please back up all your personal files first, such as Favorites, to ensure you do not lose data.

    1. Disable Extensions: Extensions can sometimes interfere with the browser's performance. Temporarily disable all extensions and see if the problem persists. If not, enable them one by one to identify the problematic extension.
    2. Reset Edge Settings: Go to "Settings" > "Reset settings" and select "Restore settings to their default values." This action resets your browser settings to the default configuration.
    3. Disable Hardware Acceleration: Hardware acceleration can sometimes cause issues. In Microsoft Edge, go to Settings > System, and turn off the "Use hardware acceleration when available" option.

I hope this helps.  If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely

If I reset edge to default values does that mean I lose all my stored favorites and passwords?

    Hi 131Steve,

Resetting Microsoft Edge to its default values will restore the browser settings to their original state, but it does not delete your personal data such as favorites and passwords. Before you reset, it's a good idea to back up or synchronize your data to ensure you don't lose anything important. If you want to clear browsing data like cookies and cache, you can do so separately without affecting your saved passwords and bookmarks. Just remember, if you're signed in and perform a clear browsing data action, it will also clear stored data from the cloud and all of your other devices. If you only want to reset Edge on the device you're using, make sure to sign out first.

    Your Sincerely

I'm seeing the same problem. Resetting Edge settings like some are recommending does not work.
