We have 2019 SharePoint servers on prem.
setup and working as normal, search service setup and working correctly

we have just added a local file server source to crawl, and documents have been crawled as we can see in the crawl log
\tac32\public\3D Printing\3D Printing Register.xlsxUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window). Open Menu
Crawled

we are unable to find this in the search results
we get the following error when trying
"Get document status in SCS"
Failed to get status of file://tac32/public/3D Printing/3D Printing Register.xlsx in SCS. Please make sure the SharePoint Search Host Controller service is running and try again.

    Hi @Braddo ,

I encountered the same error in my environment when I click "Get document status in SCS" in crawl logs. Per my test, it seems to have no effect on my search results however.

To narrow down down your issue, let's verify the followings.

    • Where did you perform the search? In a site or in a search center? Try to search it in a search center. If you have tried it, create a new search center and try again.
    • Which result page did you get if you search it? A no result page or an error page? please share a snapshot here.
    • Please make sure your have enough permission to the file.
    • Is there any related error messages in ULS Logs?

i have 2 search urls that i can access
    https://sharepoint_intranet/_layouts/15/search.aspx/sitefiles?q=0710%20-%20mgmt

    @Braddo ,

    Thanks for your resply!

    • To this search URL: https://sharepoint_intranet/_layouts/15/search.aspx/sitefiles?q=0710%20-%20mgmt,
I think you performed search in the search box of a team site like the one in the left navigation. It is a site level search and the file you want to search may not have been stored in a library of this site. You can select All sites filter condition instead in search result page and then the result you want will appear.

      60155-2.png
Of course, you can store the file in any library of this site and you can directly get the search result without the need of above switching action.
    • To this search URL: https://sharepoint_intranet/search/pages/results.aspx?k=stuff#k=0710%20-%20mgmt#l=3081,
I think you performed seach in the a search center of yours. You should be able to search the entire farm(span web applications) in a search center but obviously you can't in this search center. There are many causes for this such as Limited result sources/customized search web parts/search schema and etc. Did you make any custom settings for this search center? If yes, please share here. If no, you can use the new search center to replace the old one.
