API as a source of external image

I want to show an image in my report that is generated on the server. I have an endpoint that does it. It looks like this: https://localhost:5001/getImage. IN the design pan I see the image, but when I run it I get red X. Published report shows nothing at all. Any idea?

Hi @Zolotoy ,
For SSRS reports that reference external images (that is, images that are not stored in the database or in the report itself), I must remind you that for the file path, please make sure that you have the permissions of the SSRS service account and the Unattended account. You may want to consider pulling the files down to your local report server if performance issues prevail when the report retrieves images.
And is there any information about the operation in the error log file? In addition to displaying red X when running, are there any more error messages?

Not sure I am following what you are saying. I cannot embed the image in advance because it doesn't exist. It gets generated when a report sends a request. My endpoint sends back binary data that is shown in the Browser as an image. What do you mean by download tool? Can you please provide more details?
Just to point to it again. The image is shown correctly in the design pan. Its the run that is not working, nor the published report.

There is no additional information. However, I have more details. I have a break point in my api code that gets hit when the report is running. At least the report is trying accessing the api. The api returns a binary stream:
byte[] imageBytes = Convert.FromBase64String(image);
MemoryStream exportStream = new MemoryStream(imageBytes, 0, imageBytes.Length);
exportStream.Position = 0;
return Ok(exportStream);

which is shown correctly as an image in the Browser. But in the report it shows the red x. Published report shows nothing. seems like the report doesn't understand binary streams. Any idea?

There are no files. That is the whole point. The endpoint creates a binary stream and returns it back. I also tried Base64 string with conversion from it in the report. Not working either.
<permissions of the SSRS service account and the Unattended account.
Can you please elaborate on that?
