Troubleshooting browser crashes or performance issues on Windows 10
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
My computer using either Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer cannot open some HTTPS links. The only one I have found that does open so far is Google’s search page. In edge I have reset my browser already.
It displays the purple lock, with the website address below it. The error below that is ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR
I recently updated all mandatory updates to see if that would fix it and it has not fixed the issue.

Hi, FranticSplash6
Welcome to the Microsoft community.
It seems that the issue might be caused by SSL certificate verification failure. Please ensure that your date and time settings are completely correct. You can use the built-in synchronization feature in Windows. Then, test the issue with other browsers like Chrome or Firefox to determine if the problem is specific to one browser or system-wide.
If other browsers work fine, try downloading the Canary version of Edge to see if the issue is specific to a particular version of Edge.

If the problem persists across all browsers, please go to Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Internet Options. Under the Content tab, click on Clear SSL state, then restart your system and test if the issue is resolved.
Please let us know the results of your tests so we can better assist you in resolving the issue.
Best regards

Hi, FranticSplash6
Thanks for your reply.
If the issue persists after clearing SSL, it might be due to recent updates to the Chromium core. Another user reported a similar issue recently, and according to their description, reverting to the April version of Chrome resolved the problem. You can try downloading an older version of Chrome to see if the issue still occurs. Additionally, since this problem is related to protocols, you can seek further assistance on Microsoft Learn.

I have synchronized my time, and on finding the issue applied to chrome as well I cleared my SSL state and ran my computer through a restart. It has not fixed my issue yet.
