Hello guys,

I am having an issue with installing 2020 Security & Monthly Rollup patches for the months of March-December.

January and February seemed to have installed fine, but every month after seems to need a WMI update. Considering January 2020 was the last month before Windows 7 EOL (End Of Life), I will assume that there is something additional I would need to install in order for the other patches to successfully install. I do have an ESU license activated and installed on the system - yet this still does not fix the issue.

These are the only KB's that will install:

4534310, 4534314, 4537820, 4539601.

Note : The system I am working on is an air-gapped system. Which means there will be no automatic updates. Each KB has to be installed manually.

Hoping someone can provide a remedy or point me into the right direction of one. Cheers!

What is the current patch level? Has system health been verified? I'd verify system and servicing health by running;
sfc /scannow

also system update readiness tool

Then check for errors in;
%SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

This helped me install the patch in Windows 7 to mitigate the PrintNightmare exploit, which affects the Windows Print Spooler service.

Upon trying to install KB5004953 to mitigate the PrintNightmare exploit on Windows 7, I received the message that the PC needed to update the Windows Modules Installer. The link to MS 2533552 works, but the links on that page pointing to the downloadable update files lead to a page that states the downloads are no longer available.

I followed the link provided by JuanSbrado-3258, downloaded the Servicing Stack Update from the MS Update Catalog, and installed this MSU (KB4592510).

After installing the Servicing Stack Update, I am now able to install the KB5004953 update.

Thank you JuanSobrado-3258, it worked for me.

II followed the link provided, downloaded the Servicing Stack Update from the MS Update Catalog, and installed this MSU (KB4592510).

After installing the Servicing Stack Update, I am now able to install the relevant updates.

Tried to use your links to install Win7 Pro security update on a DELL Optiplex 3010 desktop PC..
System shows that MSU (KB4592510) was installed successfully.
The security update KB5004953 downloaded successfully.
HOWEVER, attempt to install KB5004953 failed twice.
When screen message shows "Preparing To Configure. Do Not Turn Off", install progress gets to about 70% and then displayed is the message "Failure To Install. Reverting" and system goes back to prior configuration.
Thoughts?

"Failure To Install. Reverting" I think this is related to you have a MAK version of windows and have not purchased a ESA - extended support agreement - I have this same issue

Have no idea what a MAK version is?! The Win7 Pro came installed on the DELL PC.

Also ran SFC /SCANNOW and got message "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations".
Next, looked at running the System Update Readiness Tool [KB947821] for x64-based systems but when DOWNLOAD was opened there was a considerable list of *.exe files. Do each of these need to be downloaded and executed?

I have been trying to install the Window 7 patch for print nightmare (KB5004953) to no avail. I followed your suggestion to install the latest SSU (4592510) as you noted above - that worked fine. I then tried to install the patch for print nightmare. I called Microsoft because I have the Answer Desk Assure membership, and I was hoping they could help. I finally got a hold of a rep that was willing to at least try to help. Microsoft told me to first uninstall my internet security (Webroot) before installing the patch, which I did. The patch downloaded and installed, but it would not complete. The computer restarted twice and it shut down each time with the following message: "failure configuring window updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer." It did this twice, and when it finally restarted and went to my home screen, I checked the updates and it had failed.
I am at a loss. Microsoft told me I might need to update my BIOS. Everything I read about that says "no - don't update the BIOS" - does anyone on here have any suggestions as to why this patch won't install?? Please help! I appreciate any assistance!

Tip: open an admin cmd and run: "cscript slmgr.vbs /dlv all >C:\licensing,txt"
In the body of txt file look for the entries ESU and check the License status, ESU year 02 and 01 should show as licensed.

If this is correct and problem persists, I highly suggest checking, or share, the CBS log file of failed operation. (%systemroot%\logs\cbs

I thought the ESU was for business customers? I have Windows 7 Home Premium. I was told by Microsoft that I am not eligible for ESU. Thoughts?

Opened executive level command and ran <cscript slmgr.vbs /dlv all >C:\licensing,txt> without quotes or brackets.
Not sure what I am supposed to get but after hitting enter, it goes back to command line?!
Should the txt file show below the command line?
What is the name of the resulting txt file (so can put in search box)?
Where can it be found?

OK, found and opened "licensing.txt" which shows this message...
Input Error: There is no file extension in "C:\Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs\dlv".
Is the command supposed to be "licensingDOTtext" or "licensingCOMMAtxt" as you indicated?

I am running Win7 Pro but, if I understand correctly, the opportunity to install ESU 1 and 2 expired as of January, 2021.
Being a novice, even if I WAS notified of the ESUs, would not have known what they were and/or why they should have been istalled!
I am sure that I am not alone in this situation.
What can be done now?

I am trying to install KB5014742 of month 06 2022, but get an error message "The Windows Modules Installer must be updated before you can install this package". According to advice of Juan Sobrado given here, I installed KB4592510. It installed successfully, but when I then try to install KB5014742 I still get the same error message "The Windows Modules Installer must be updated before you can install this package". Please help

I solved the problem installing a later SSU KB5011649 of March 2022. After that, installation of KB5014742 of June 2022 goes successful

This problem occurs because the installation requires a new version of the Windows Modules Installer or the servicing stack.
