When enabling software updates client setting, i have put value for "Software Update scan schedule" as Everyday at 3:00 AM and for "scan re-evaluation" as 8:00 AM.
Does this mean the client will scan for any metadata/updates only during these times? if yes, what if i deploy something at 9:00 AM, will it wait for the next day 3:00 AM?

Not really. It means, in addition to other times that scans are invoked (like when newly deployed updates are received), run the scan. The scheduled scan cycles as supplemental to process of deploying updates and not in the critical path for them.

No. As noted, update deployments don't specifically rely on the scheduled scan cycles. Thus, I generally recommend folks leave the default values for the scheduled scan cycles.

Hi Jason -

If a system does a simple 7 day scan 1 day before your updates come into the MECM DB wouldn't that make that client unaware of the new updates until it runs the scan cycle?

Further to my above question. The scan that happens as part of the deployment - doesn't that only happen if an update installs AND a restart is required?

Client initiated scans are meant to update compliance status for previously deployed updates. Newly deployed updates will always initiate a compliance scan on the client at the time the ConfigMgr client learns of them, i.e., first downloads the policy for the newly deployed update.

No to the second question. That check box is for performing an additional scan after installing updates as sometimes, updates don't become applicable until another update is installed. Without checking this box, the client would have to wait until another maintenance window and/or the next scheduled scan to know that a "dependent" update like this is needed/applicable.

Hi @Karun Khanna ,

Agree with Jason, select Schedule of Software Update scan schedule to specify how often the client starts a compliance assessment scan. This scan determines the state for software updates on the client (for example, required or installed). And Select Schedule of deployment re-evaluation to configure how often the software updates client agent reevaluates software updates for installation status on Configuration Manager client computers.

These settings will not affect the scans and deployments of updates.
