My computer shutdown when I was in the middle of using it. I turned it back on and all my documents, pictures and videos were gone. This happened on August 2nd. Now it won’t let me access start menu to pull up settings, programs etc. I can’t see which version of Microsoft I have. I bought the computer in 2016

Is my computer crashing or has it been hacked?

If you really think you've been hacked, you can reinstall Windows. You can make a backup of your files by removing the hard drive and putting it in another PC to copy important files there, if it is possible of course. Otherwise you can always ask a professional in a computer store.

It doesn’t look like there is another user when I pressed windows key + L. The search bar doesn’t let me enter anything. The start button won’t open either.

Hello , sorry about your problems. My name is Marco and I will do my best to help you.

Probably your Windows has connected to another user. If you press Windows key + L, do you see another user that you can log in to?

You can see your files if they are in c:\users\your username.
