Microsoft Edge issue when opening a document on a public website

When I open a document on a public website in Microsoft Edge, I get an Edit function on the first open page, which I should not get. Is it possible to switch this off or to avoid getting this page at all. When you click on the Download File button, the page opens normally and there is no Edit function. Thank you very much.

    Dear Bench

Thank you very much for your reply, which is much appreciated. However, my pc does not replicate the instructions. When I look at the front page of the open document and the Edit function blue label, my Settings icon sits above the three dots and when I click on it, I only get a reference to 'update accessibility preferences' and nothing else. Under the three dots, I do not have Settings and therefore none of the sequence you mention.

Can you help further, please? Thank you very much!

    Ann

    Hi Ann Matheson,

Thank you for Posting in Microsoft Community.

To disable the Edit function in Microsoft Edge when opening a document on a public website, you can try the following steps:

    1. Open Microsoft Edge.
    2. Click on the three dots (More actions) in the top right corner of the browser window.
    3. Select "Settings" from the drop-down menu.
    4. Scroll down and click on "Cookies and site permissions" under the "Privacy, search, and services" section.
    5. Click on "PDF documents" or "Office Viewer documents" depending on the type of document you are trying to open.
    6. Toggle off the switch for "Always open PDF files in the default viewer" or "Always open Office files in the default viewer."

Let me know how it goes,

    Best Regards,
