on windows XP , i found that i could move ICON shortcuts off the ALL USER DESKTOP file folder to one or two spicific users desktop folders.  this would clean up the desck top of an user under the age of 16 from ICONs on the desk top that they should not have access to .  and leave the icons for the user that need them .

it also allowed me to take an application installed desktop ICON shortcut that only showed up in the user that installed the application to the ALL USER desktop or to other user desktop folders so multiple installs was not needed to add the icons to other users.

how do you accomplish this on a multi user windows 7 computer .  is there a way to togle hiden folders to show up ,  like view folder options

i found Documents, Download, Music, Pictures, Recorded TV, and Videos

BUt I DID NOT FIND DESKTOP ,   which is on windows XP ALLUSERS

so , try again ,   how do i remove an application ICON from being on every users DESKTOP ; and only on some user DESKTOP .

it may be buisness applications that ask for install on one user ,several users, or all users.

but i have alot of NON buisness home application ,  and some are for the windows XP erra ,  and they do not ask about the ammount of users.

    Hi

Sorry, I neglected to mention that some of those folders are hidden, by default.

In Windows Explorer, select Organize/Folder and Search options/View Tab.

Select the Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives option. Apply/OK.

Restart Windows Explorer and the Desktop folder should be there.

    Regards,

Thank You for using Windows 7

    Hi Marty415

You can easily accomplish the same thing in Windows 7.

The All Users location is called C:\Users\Public in Windows 7. Under that folder you will see all of the standard users folders. Any files or shortcuts in those folders will appear in the folder with the same name of every user on the system.

More information. Most up to date software programs will give you a choice of installing for the current user only, or All Users.

    Hope this helps.

Thank You for using Windows 7
