File system error 512 - can't create a new folder

Hi,

I'm having trouble creating a new folder under libraries/pictures. I have several folders and sub-folders, but lately when I try to create a new folder directly into "pictures" I get a "file system error 512". I can still create new folders within the existing folders, but not directly in the libraries/pictures directory. I'm baffled as I've done this many times before!

I downloaded and ran an expensive registry fix program and have all the latest Windows updates. Neither helped.

Any ideas are most appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Alex

You're correct, I was assuming that the My Pictures from your user account folders was in that library.

OK, let's try it again.

Go to the C:\Users\Public\Public Pictures folder. Create a new folder in the Public Pictures folder.

Now go back to the Pictures library and see if that new folder appears there.

Let me know.

Thank You for using Windows 7

    Hi

This may or may not be your issue, but the Libraries have a hard coded limit of 50 parent folders.

You can create as many sub-folders as you wish.

    Hope this helps.

Thank You for using Windows 7

I am having the same issue and cannot understand why there is not more information about this problem and how to fix it.  This happened only recently.  I am running Windows 7 64 bit version.

I have a brand new laptop with all updates, did anytime upgrade from windows 7 home premium to pro in 64bit, this is a major issue, I cant load some needed software because it cant create folders either....

I checked to see if that was the problem and noticed that I had 61 parent folders in the pictures library, and numerous subfolders as well. So now I'm really confused. How can that be if the limit is 50?
