The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom0

Hi,

I came to use my DVD drive and it did not respond after inserting a disk into it. I looked in Event Viewer and there are plenty of these errors:

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom0.

My Event ID is 11, the source is cdrom and the level is Error

Also a few days ago I experienced a few blue screens and I don't know why because I wasn't even on the computer when they occured.Would they have something to with it?

I would appreciate solutions as this is a really inconvenient problem.

Kind Regards.

    Hi,

I tested that CD-ROM on another computer today and it worked.I launched the computer in safe mode and I put the CD-ROM and got an error:

"The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error"

In Event Viewer I still get the other error The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom0 listed so what do you suggest I do now?

    Kind Regards.

    Hi,

For that one particular CD, I would suggest you to check the same on any other computer and see if it works fine or not.

About the blue screen errors, we can only help you if you update us with the error message and the code that you get on the blue screen. That will helps us to know what exactly had caused the issue.

    Hope this information is helpful.

    Hi,

Yes thank you for the information on that troubleshooter - it did help but there is this one CD-ROM which will not play. I got it to play once but not now - what could be the reasoning for this? Most of the DVD's work and so do most of the CD's. Do you have any other suggestions on how I can fix this problem? In a few days I will test the CD-ROM on another computer to see if I get the same problem, if I do I will know its the CD and that maybe there is a problem with my computer. I will keep you updated but in the meantime do you have any suggestions? Could it be linked with the blue screen?

Concerning the blue screen I am unable to find the error code on Event Viewer - I have done several searches but if the blue screen occurs again I will update you hopefully with an Event I.D.

So to sum up, do you have any suggestions for fixes on my DVD Drive and I will test the CD-ROM on another computer in a few days then update you then if it is a problem with my computer then we can take it from there.

    Thank you and Kind Regards.

    Hi,

You may update the drivers for the CD\DVD drive from the manufacturer’s website and check if that helps. You may also run the hardware troubleshooter for the CD\DVD drive and check what happens.

To open the hardware troubleshooter follow the link given below

Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Open-the-Hardware-and-Devices-troubleshooter

Also, to know what caused the Blue Screen we would require the error message that you got on the screen. You might need to look in the event viewer to look for the same.

    • Open Event Viewer by clicking theStart button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clickingEvent Viewer.‌ If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

For more information follow the link given below.

    Open Event Viewer

    Hope this information is helpful.
