Cannot delete a .tmp file with 0 bytes. It does not show in safe mode.

I have a similar problem:

except that my file is called JET41C0.TMP File (.tmp). It has 0 bytes.

I  changed all properties to administrator. It says access is denied. It keeps on stating, in properties, that it was created, updated and accessed the today's date. When I went to Safe mode it disappeared. It is located in my Vista in c:\ Windows\temp\

It changes name also. Today it is JET420E.tmp

My old printer was Canon 1470d which failed me. Now I have a Canon MP250.

Would appreciate help.

I'm surprised Unlocker didn't work - the file must be in use by something on your system (if we can figure out what that is).  If you ran all the malware software I suggested then your system is probably clean (cleaner than most) and that isn't the problem.

Perhaps it's a temp file being used by a program that's currently running on your system (which may be why it won't delete) - a program you're not aware is running.  Go to Start / Search Box and type in msconfig and enter and then double-click on the program icon that appears.  Go to the startup tab and check the entries with checkmarks indicating they start at startup.  Remove the checks from any you don't need starting at startup (that will probably be many or most of them - most are added to speed up the startup of the programs when they are accessed and do not need to be running in the background taking up valuable resources - but some are necessary like your AV program and Defender).  If you see one called Jet... then be especially sure to remove the check from that one.  Then reboot.

Is the file still there?

If so, let's do a clean boot (where we boot with a minimal set of programs and drivers running to see if that resolves the problem or points us in the right direction).  Here's the procedure: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796 and/or http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135.  If the problem goes away with the clean boot, then the trick is finding the program or driver that's causing the temp file to appear and that's pretty much trial and error with the listed entries - time consuming but it will eventually work if the problem went away with a clean boot.  (If the problem does not go away with a clean boot then you can stop the process because that procedure isn't going to find the cause.) Then you know which program or driver to disable to prevent the file from appearing.  It may turn out that you actually want the file there because you are using the program or service (wouldn't that be something).

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

I have used the information from "support.microsoft.com/kb/929135" to make a clean boot. The

JET9B73.tmp is  created by ticking Norton Internet Security in services of the msconfig. If I  undo the service then NIC anti virus and malware are not functioning. The Jet file may not create a problem but I will check with the Norton staff.Thank you so much LorienAlexandreo

    • I tried all programs that you suggested to no avail. The JETA227.tmp is still in my computer like dirt.
    • Would you have other suggestion to remove this Jet....
    • I also tried Spy Sweeper.

    Lorien:

You have hit the nail opn the head. Using msconfig I was able to make this JET95D8.tmp disappeared when I disabled the services. Nothing happened with disabling start up.

I will work on it using the pages id:929135

i will let you know the results. As you say it may a needed file but I doubt it in a temp folder.

    Thank you so much.

    Till later

Try deleting it with Unlocker: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml.  This program often works where the normal Vista delete function fails.

It could also be malware (especially since it changes its name).  While in Safe Mode with networking (click repeatedly on F8 during the boot process) try to run anti-malware programs. To fix this problem (if it is a problem) download,  install, and run the following two programs: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php and http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html.  You may also want to try a free trial of Pandasoft (www.pandasoft.com).  Before downloading pandasoft, uninstall whatever anti-virus program you are currently using (because installing and running two at the same time can cause conflicts, freezes, and all sorts of problems).  Once you've uninstalled your current AV program, download, install, update, and scan using Pandasoft.  I think you might be amazed at how much it finds that the other software missed.  Once complete, uninstall pandasoft and re-install your current AV program (unless you decide to switch which I did when I first tried it about 4 years ago).  You may also want to try the new, free Microsoft Security Essentials http://www.microsoft.com/security\_essentials/default.aspx (with the same caveat that only ONE AV program can be installed and running on your system at any one time). Reboot after completing all the scans.  You may also want to try the free OneCare at http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm and let it run all the options because that’s good maintenance (it will take some time to complete but can be done in the background).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!
