Please answer all of the following diagnostic questions by number in your next reply (no need to quote this post):

    1. What McAfee anti-virus application or security suite is installed (full name, please) and is your subscription current?  What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?  What third-party firewall (if any)?
    2. Has another McAfee application or a Norton application ever been installed on the computer?
    3. Did a McAfee or Norton free-trial come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)

I purchased the computer with a two year McAfee license from Dell, and the application came pre-installed.

    1. Run this McAfee three-step fix: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507
    2. Manually & repeatedly update McAfee Security Center until you get a "no more updates" prompt.
    3. Open IE8 32-bit (only!) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 [ignore the APPLIES TO section] & run the Fix It in DEFAULT and then AGGRESSIVE modes. [1]
    4. Reboot & test by running a manual check for updates per...

    Hi drunkenyeti101,

    Method 1

I would suggest that you disable McAfee security software on the computer and run the CheckSUR tool again and later try to install the updates.

    Method 2

If the above step fails then I would suggest that you download and install the updates manually.

    Update for Windows 7 (KB975496)

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c0521043-8680-41b3-b654-1fac5628ea72&displaylang=en

Security Update for Windows 7 (KB980232)

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=F3495DAE-71F3-421D-A191-D26965F26AD1&displaylang=en

And for the update KB97662you have provided an incorrect update number you may look into the update history and later download the update manually and install it.

    a)   Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button, clicking  All Programs, and then clicking  Windows Update.

    b)   In the left pane, click View update history.

    c)    To view more information about an update, double-click it.

Once you know the update KB number then visit the Microsoft download and put the KB number in the search box to download and install the update manually.

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/default.aspx

    Hope this helps!
