I suddenly had this same problem - I renamed my file simply by adding the letter B at end of its name and then it let me save. Then I looked at the original file - before I had added to it - and it had some sort of corruption. I deleted the original and kept the "B" version, but for my convenience I renamed it without the B so it's my new version of the original saved just the way I wanted.
"A file error has occurred" when saving documents
Original Title: Vista not saving documents
Hi,
Last night I was trying to save a document, I got the error message "A file error has occurred" the message then states the file's supposed location.
I am not sure why my PC is doing this..I have booted in safe mode, and saving works fine, if anyone can help me please do.

2010-09-08T19:39:28+00:00 Hi,
I have tried word and notepad formats, and neither saved.
Just tried a clean boot, screwed up my PC, now need a rescue disc. Which I currently don't have in my possession.
I did have sufficient space on my hard drive, I could clearly see that I had around 270GB free on it.
Anywho..
Thanks for trying to help (:

2010-09-08T06:58:52+00:00 Hey bod626,
¯ What is the format of the document you're trying to save?
¯ Do you face this issue when saving from other documents such as notepad?
There are many possible reasons for the file saving issue. Some of them are listed below.
¯ You are trying to save your document to a removable disk drive.
¯ You are trying to save to a disk drive that is experiencing a hardware failure.
Things to try:
File Save issue
As per your post, since save works in safe mode, one or more software installed on the computer could be contributing to this problem.
The best bet is to find out what is causing the problem. To do so, put your system in clean boot state and restart the computer. See if the error shows up.
Here’s how:
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
If the error doesn’t show up after restarting the computer, that indicates one of the installed third party software causing this problem. Follow the steps provided in the article above to determine the culprit application. Having located the root cause, you can either get in touch with the software provider or post the details here for further investigation.
Comodo time machine/AVG update
Do you indeed have sufficient space available on the hard drive?
If so, run a check disk on the drive to scan for bad sectors.
Refer this Help article: Check a drive for errors
Important: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector any data available on that might be lost.
For additional help, please contact Comodo or AVG support.
