Hi livedog44,

As a first step, I would suggest you to update your video drivers either through Windows update or you can update manually by getting the latest drivers from your computer manufacturer.

Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly**http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly**

Once you’ve updated the driver for your video card, we’ll assist you connecting your PC to TV. So tell us what happens when you try to connect your computer to TV. Meanwhile, you can visit the link below that talk about it.

Connect your computer to a TV**http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Connect-your-computer-to-a-TV**

You can also try the steps mentioned in the link below that talk about how to troubleshoot performance issues with standby, hibernate, sleep and resume in Windows Vista**http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950686**

If you’re still not able to put the computer into sleep mode, then I would suggest you to restore the power plan settings to its default schemes.

1. Click on start; in the start search type cmd.

2. Right click on cmd.exe and run as administrator.

3. Type the following command and hit Enter.

Powercfg –restoredefaultschemes

Close the command prompt and then restart your computer. Now try putting your computer into sleep mode.
