Error Message while registering Wmnetmgr.dll

I have been getting error messages when I try to stream radio. While resolving this issue I came across http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940029 webpage where it said registering Wmnetmgr.dll might solve the issue.

When I typed the command regsvr32 wmnetmgr.dll in the cmd prompt I get the following error.

The module "wmnetmgr.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x8002801c.

Will I need to download wmnetmgr.dll?

Please Help.

Thanks.

Hi GoldenShoes,

Welcome to Microsoft answers!

The error value 0x8002801c means, Error accessing the **OLE (**Object Linking and Embedding) registry.

I would suggest you to run the command with elevated privileges.

**Step 1:**Run the command with elevated privileges, to do this, follow the steps below:

a. Click on start and in the start search bar type CMD, right click on the command prompt icon in the programs area and then click on run as administrator.

b. at the command prompt type regsvr32 wmnetmgr.dll and then press enter.

Note: Make sure you are running the computer as administrator.

If that doesn’t help,

Step 2:  Delete the Wmsdkns.xml file from the location: C:\Users\yourUsername\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Media\11.0 folder, as suggested in the link

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940029

Hope this information is helpful

    Hi,

I am having the same problem with Windows Vista Home Basic. Every time I try and open a video on a web page via Media Player; I can only save the video instead of just opening it and streaming it in Media Player. I tried the steps you listed without success. I cant change permission settings or delete it even when running as administrator. Also I cant reach the file using the path you provided instead I can get as far as the "microsoft" portion of the file path and then the "Windows Media\11.0" portion of the path doesnt exsist on my computer. The only way I can actually see the file is by copying its name and pasting it into the search bar in the start menu. What else can I do?

    Thanks
