winlogon.exe application error

When booting up in XP SP3, I recieve the following error

The instruction at 0x00702571 refereenced memory at 0x00e00000. The memory could not be "read"

The computer will come all the way up, but as soon as I click on OK or Cancel, I get a fatal error message.

I believe there is a problem at the Kernel layer, specifically with a DLL, but I'm at a loss as to how to fix it. Wondering if I should re-install SP3.

I just installed Malware Bytes yesterday and this morning a similar message came up for me after being online for 1/2 hour. Mine read as: winlog.exe - Application Error       The instruction at "0x005c2581" referenced memory at "0x010f0000" The memory could not be fixed. If I OK or Cancel the error, then the fatal blue error screen pops up. Any ideas how to clear this up?
