Software stopped working

I have Windows Vista home premium service pack 1 64-bit operating system. I am having trouble opening up 2 programs, everytime I click to open them a Microsoft Windows box pops up that says "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available, Close Program".  I have paid for these programs and now cannot open them. Sometimes a bubble at the bottom pops us and directs me to the DEP info, I don't know how to fix it.

One program is Sony Vegas the other is a burning program. The same message comes up on both as soon as I click on it and it starts to load it says that.

Hi Ginal,

Thank you for posting on the forum.

Please be advised of Microsoft’s

THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE DISCLAIMER

Using Third Party Software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Third Party Software can be solved. Using Third Party Software is at your own risk.

What you can try to do is Turn off DEP for your programs or, perform a clean boot > uninstall and reinstall the program and give it a try again.

From Article:

Change Data Execution Prevention settings

To turn off DEP for an individual program

 • Select the check box next to the program that you want to turn off DEP for, and then click OK.

If the program is not in the list, click Add. Browse to the Program Files folder, find the executable file for the program (it will have an .exe file extension), and then click Open.

Follow the steps below to place your computer in “clean boot”

·         Click the Start orb on your Desktop

·         Type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

·         On the General tab, click Selective Startup.

·         Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box

·         Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All

·         Click OK

When you are prompted, click Restart.  Uninstall and reinstall the program. Now give it a try, are you still getting the same error message?

If this does resolve the issue, then see the following Microsoft Article on “Clean boot” and the section “How to determine what is causing the problem” to determine which program or service maybe causing the issue.

How to set your computer back, to boot normal:

·         Click the Start orb on your Desktop

·         In the Start Search box. Type msconfig, and then press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

Click the General tab.

·         Click Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services, and then click OK

·         When you are prompted, click Restart to restart the computer.

Hope this will fix it for you. Please consult with the program’s developer for additional support.
