Windows 7 not compatible with modem

I bought a Dell Inspiron 537 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.  This is not compatible with my modem so I cannot get onto the internet.  Our internet provider does not know what to do to help us.  Motorola, the modem manufactuer does not list Windows 7 on their website as being compatible and will not help individual queries, only companies.

We were connecting to the internet on our old computer that had XP using the USB port.  It seems that Windows 7 only uses ethernet port, not USB.  Our ethernet is not working so we're trying to connect by USB.

We see that Windows 7 gives you the option to load another operating system.  Since Windows Vista is compatible we would like to load that.  Can someone tell me how to do this so I don't ruin my computer?

Any other suggestions?

Unless you have a full version of Vista to load on the new WIN 7 computer, you are stuck with WIN 7. Does Motorola have a firmware upgrade for their modem? This sounds like a PPPoE connection. IF I were you I would go out and buy a Netgear or Linksys router and go wireless. You can also get a wireless USB NIC. This must be an old modem.
