My Windows 7 64bit OS is missing the Personalize, gadgets and desktop resolutions menus on the right click context menu.  Is it possible to add these settings to the right click desktop menu?

Hi,

1.     Which version of Windows7 is installed on the computer?

2.     Since when are you facing this issue?

3.     Were these options there earlier?

If you are using Windows7 home basic, then itis by design because Windows 7 Home Basic does not support Themes. Please see the following article for the explanation.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2005592

Method 1:

If windows gadget platform is disabled from turn windows features on or off, then you won’t have an option for gadgets when you right click on the desktop.

I would suggest you to follow these steps and check if ti helps:

  1. Click the Start button, click Control Panel, click Programs, and then click Turn Windows features on or off. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  2. Check if Windows gadget platform has a check mark.
  3. If not, check Windows gadget platform, restart the computer.
  4. Right click on the desktop and check if the gadgets option appears.

**Method 2:**Try creating a new user account and check if the same issue occurs.

Here is a link that will give you information on how to create a new user account.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and had simply turned gadgets off and forgotten that I'd done so (and also how to turn Windows Features on and off).  This article was very helpful. Suggestion: Turning the Windows Gadgets on in the desktop menu should be described in the Help topic "Windows SideShow gadgets: frequently asked questions" as question # 5 in answer to "What do I do if Gadgets do not appear in my desktop View menu?"
