Whenever I delete something and replace it, a . (period) is inserted in that space. If I delete several things, I get several periods. Deleting the period gives me another period. This is on both Microsoft Word and on the internet email program.

Hi Historywriter,

  1. Did you make any changes prior to the issue?
  2. Which is the email program?
  3. Does the issue persist with both the delete keys on keyboard?

Please note that there are two delete keys present on the keyboard. The functionality of these keys varies a little bit. Use different delete key and check the result.

If you're facing issue only on Microsoft Office applications, then we recommend you to post your query at**Microsoft Office Forums** for better assistance.

The problem is most likely that you have hit your "Num Lock" key which is giving you the upper case on the numeric pad.  Delete at the bottom of the numeric pad has a period upper case.  If you press shift + delete it will delete other wise inserts a period.  Hope this helps :)

I was also having this problem.  I suspect I hit a combination of keys to cause the problem because I have experienced this before.  I was able to fix the problem by pressing the "Atl" + delete keys.  Hope this helps you.

Thanks but these "suggestions" did not work.  Both delete keys do not work properly. The upper row delete key does NOTHING.  The del key on the "keypad" (right side of keyboard) inserts a period.

    Any othe suggestions/solutions.

    Thanks.
