Question

SCCM Patching on Windos Server

Hello,

Few servers are not patched for years and now we are planning to add these servers into SCCM patching.
But SCCM will have only latest updates, shall i configure in SCCM for the servers to download and update directly from MS instead of deployment package ?

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on my experience, both Windows 10 and Windows Server use the cumulative update mechanism, in which many fixes to improve the quality and security of Windows are packaged into a single update. Each cumulative update includes the changes and fixes from all previous updates, so that we could only patch the latest updates. If the servers are domain joined, yes, it's recommended to configure the servers to download from the internal DPs rather than MS.

Hello,

I dont have an option "No deployment Package", wizard just showing Create Deployment package or Select a deployment package.
Is there any setting to be checked?

Thanks for your update.

Could we know if the current version of our SCCM is earlier than 1806? If it is, please upgrade our SCCM to the latest version. Only starting in version 1806, we can use the option "no deployment package" to deploy software updates to devices without first downloading and distributing content to distribution points.

May we know if these servers are in your corporate network and domain joined? If yes, it's recommended that we use the "deployment package" rather than "no deployment package".
