I am attempting to install a USB connected slide copier and I get the error message that the class installer has denied`the request to install the device.

What is a "class installer"? and Why is it not allowing me to install this driver?

    Hi naas1,

    I followed the above steps you suggested to Fred803 on my laptop (which runs Windows XP Service Pack 3) and am still unable to install my USB scanner device.  I ran a disk clean up, a disk defragment.  I ran a full system security scan, I ran scf/scannow, and I uninstalled all 4 of the USB HUB from my Device Manager.  When I rebooted I additionally turned off my firewall and anti-virus software and had no other devices plugged in nor any other programs running.  When all this failed, I uninstalled everything again and ran a clean boot before attempting to install again.  I have also attempted to install the driver individually from the manufacturer's website and was met with an error box from Hardware Wizard (Even though I did not use Hardware Wizard to install) that stated again "The class installer has denied the request to install or update this device"

    Under Device Manager there is a yellow exclamation point under the heading "Imaging Devices" and when I attempt to "reinstall drivers" (because I have a Code 28 listed) I receive the same error message.  When all items are uninstalled there is no "imaging device" heading in my device manager and attempts to install ones from other manufacturer's via Windows update are unable to be installed.

    Do you have any other suggestions?

    Uninstall and run a clean up then run this command:

    sfc /scannow

    After the above finish please try to Reinstall and disconnect any other USB devices to get a successfult installation.

    Also, make sure your machine clean from malware and viruses by scanning it with an up2date security software.

    If the above didn't help, please try to uninstall the USB-HUB from the Device manager by performing these steps:

    <MS::>

    -  Type devmgmt.msc, and then click OK. Device Manager opens.

    • Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.

    Note You might have to scroll down the list to find this item.

    • Right-click the first USB-Hub, and then click Uninstall to remove it.
    • Repeat step 4 for each USB-Hub that is listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    • Restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and reinstall all the USB controllers that you uninstalled.
    • Check the USB device to see whether it is working.

    <MS::/>
