Is this a dell / SP2 glitch? im looking for a copy of windows to install w/ SP1 or 3 but im not sure if i can still use my code if i switch.

i have googled the error, but most pple seen to get the error intermitantly, therefore can install a patch etc, i can't.

please help

it's my wife's Uncle PC and it was running slow etc.

Its is a fresh install, i have never seen the desktop, i cant log in, there is no anti-virus (or any other) software installed.

nor hav i had a chance to validate or update windows.

oh, yes when i installed it. i deleted the partition and remade it, did a ntfs quick format.

its a P4/2.8 i have no idea what came on it new.

as far as the tool, i can D/L it to another pc but i cant run it in this on because i cant log in.

Is a functional anti-virus application installed now?

Have you been able to Validate yet?

Is the computer fully-patched at Windows Update?

Sorry, I have nothing further to suggest (other than your wife's uncle ditch the WinXP box & buy a new computer from a reputable source).

Why did you do a "fresh install" of WinXP SP2? Did you format the HDD before doing the "fresh install?"

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your subscription current?  What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?  What third-party firewall (if any)?

Did a Norton or McAfee free-trial come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)
