Since upgrading from Vista to Windows 7 my email filtering program (MailWasher Pro) cannot find the default email program (Windows Live Mail).

Hi Doctorbas – Welcome to Microsoft Answers Community.

I suggest you uninstall the filter software, and then you go and

make Windows® Live Mail as your default mail client program.

How do I make my mail client as default?1. Click Start Menu and select Default Programs.

2. Select the first label, Set your default programs link label.

3. The you’ll see a list of icons and program names,

select one and click Set this program as default command link.

Once the mail client has become default you shall go and download

the third-party filter, but keep in mind that maybe that program

filter was only designed for Windows® Mail in Windows Vista™.

I hope you find this information useful and if you need any further assistance,

please feel free to contact me and let me know.

I hope this information was helpful…

Have a nice day…

Best regards,

Fisnik

This sounded  good until I tried it.  I did indeed see a list of programs and Icons. However Windows Live was not in the list. So back to square one. How do I make Windows Live my default email in Windows 7.

Don't tell me to install Windows 10. I did . UGH . Back to good old Windows 7.

That does not help.  Anyone can figure out how to navigate to the Internet Options control panel and get to the place where they should be able to set a default mail client.  The problem is that Windows Live and other web email apps are not listed, so how do you make them a default mail client, like the question states?  Is this something that is not actually possible but Microsoft doesn't want to admit, so pretends not to recognize?  Perhaps they also don't want to admit that they stopped supporting the Live Mail app that did used to work for this in 2011?
