When I log into my computer, my windows live messenger pops up with out me wanting it to.  So i changed the options so it wouldnt do it again, but when I tried it, it still happened.  When I went to change the options again, I noticed that the options didnt save.  How do I save the options?  I have windows 7 starter if it matters.

Hi jmrrs0,

Step 1: As a first step, Go to task manager-> End all the processes related to the Messenger . Now restart the messenger and check if the issue persists.

Step 2: Open the Messenger from the following location:

C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exe

Right click on msnmsgr.exe and select "Run as administrator"

Check whether you are able to save the option to not load the messenger while Windows starts.

Also you may delete the following registry key:

Click Start-> type regedit.exe-> Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Delete this key and restart the computer and check if this fixes the issue:

  1. Go to start and type regedit.exe.
  2. Navigate to the location of respective problem software.
  3. Delete the item by right clicking on it and selecting delete.
  4. Close registry editor.

Restart the computer.
