If you don't mind, can I suggest that you might instead prefer to simply use the Windows Taskbar instead? Just like the Dell Dock, you can drag any icon you want on to it. It also gives you these benefits over the Dell Dock:
- Less screen clutter -- there's only one toolbar to look for for all your icons.
- The icon is always in the same place, whether the program is already running or not.
- Many programs, such as mail or messaging programs, will put overlay status icons on top of the Taskbar icon to alert you when a new message arrives.
- You can drag-and-drop the icons into any order you like.
- When you point to an icon of a program that is already running, you get a preview before you even click it.
- You can right-click any icon for a list of recently-used files that program has been used with.
- You can use a keyboard shortcut to open any icon. For example, Windows-3 opens the 3rd icon on the Taskbar.
- If you want it on the top of the screen, just right-click it, unlock it, then drag it to where you like.
It truly is "one icon to rule them all", and allows you to use the same single point for launching, viewing, opening, and controlling -- all from one point, and without the clutter of yet-another-toolbar to take up your space.
And if you don't like it, you can always use the Dell Dock as before. The choice is yours.
