many thanks, l have installed windows 7 and settings seem to be working. tho l have another thread regarding sound issues now (seems that while the sound settings are correctly set some programs dont seem to use my rear speakers on media playback on video files)
Windows 7 "Professional" - Unicode settings
I intend to purchase Windows 7 in the coming week or so, however l wish to make sure certain settings are present before l choose the version thats right for me.
Basically l currently run Windows XP Pro at the second all regional settings are set to the UK, however l run allot of Japanese programs which require non-unicode support, so while my region is set to UK my unicode settings are set to Japanese, so lm still somewhat confused regarding the comparison charts as to if the language ability Ultimate boasts means that l cant install language packs that allow me to view Japanese text and set the system to be able to run non-unicode programs
as an example lve print screened my XP settings the image can be found here: http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/4276/image1yh.jpg
so just to be sure "Can the language" for non-unicode programs be changed in "Windows 7 Professional", tho l know the option exists in the Ultimate version under regional settings (under the Administrative tab) l wish to verify the ability to change unicode settings on the Professional version without completely changing the whole systems language and context menus, in short l just want the ability to see Japanese fonts and to be able to run "non-unicode" applications like l do under WinXP.

2010-04-06T22:18:04+00:00 Hello Timelesspa,
You will be able to change this setting with Windows 7 Professional like Ultimate. You can refer the below article that will give you information on how to change this setting:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Change-the-system-locale
You can see that this article applies to all the versions of Windows 7, this means that this setting is available in all the versions of Windows 7.
