When viewing tv programs scheduled for the day on www.news.com.au, I used to be able to click on a program and a new window opens to give a sypnosis of the program.

Now when I put the cursor on the program I get the message:     javascript:event-popup .....

Being a computer illiterate, I just do not know what is wrong!

Appreciate help and thanks.

You are very welcome.

And thank you for the reply.

If you are fairly sure it is being caused by an Update, read all the info below, and see if you can resolve it permanently:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial140.html

Understanding Windows Update and Extras in Windows Vista at above link.

Remove Vista Updates; two ways to do this:

  1. Do a System Restore to before the Updates:

Click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > Put it back in time/pick your own date > Next

If using Norton, disable it before using System restore.

If unable to get into Normal Mode, do a System Restore in Safe Mode:

Tap F8 at Startup/power on, and from list of Startup options, select Safe mode by using the UP Arrow Key> then hit ENTER.

Do the System restore steps as per info above.

Also:

2. Click Start > Right-click Computer > Properties > Windows Updates down the bottom left corner > Installed Updates in bottom left corner in next window

> then click which one you do not want > Uninstall will appear at the top > Uninstall it.

Also, on the page where you clicked on "Installed Updates" Click on Change Settings up the top left corner there

> Change Update Settings in next page from Auto Update to "Check for updates but let me choose etc"> OK

**When you look in the list of waiting Updates, you can either download/install them one at a time, to find out the Update that is causing you problems. > or if you do not need a particular one> Right-click on it> UAC Prompt > Hide It**

Cheers.

Restore Point:

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/

Do System Restore in Safe Mode, if unable to do it in Normal Mode.

Try tapping F8 at startup, and from the list of startup selections, select Safe Mode by using UP Arrow Key to go there > then hit Enter.

Try a System Restore once there, to pick a Restore Point before your problem..

Click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > pick a different time > Next > etc

http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system\_restore.htm

Read the above for a very good Graphical display of how to go back more than 5 days in System Restore Points by ticking the correct Box.

Cheers.

    You are very welcome.

If you are sure you have narrowed it down to Firefox, above is a link to their Support Forums.

It would be worth your time to ask there, and get this resolved.

And thanks for taking the time to reply.

    Cheers.

    Hi Mick

So sorry this late response as only saw your advice yesterday.

Just discovered that the problem was not with updates but only happens when I use Firefox.  If I use IE, even though the javascript message pops up on the left hand bottom of the screen, I am still able to click on a tv program and a new window opens to give me the synopsis.

There could be an answer but it's beyond me.

Thanks very much, Mick, for your advice and your time.  I have learned quite a bit from you.

Have a good week and all the best.

    Michael

    Thanks very much Mick.

I have tried system restore on several occasions and they worked.

However the problem keeps coming back albeit with a different series of numbers each time.  I am suspecting the problem may have been caused by some Windows Update?

Thanks again for your help.  Likely no alternative but to system restore each time problem starts.

    Have a pleasant week!  Cheers!
