I want my computer to keep running even when I am not using it.  It goes dormant after a few minutes of no activity and I want to change that.

TIA

Hi,

·        What do you mean by dormant, does your system go into sleep/standby/ hibernation mode?

·        Does it display a screen saver on the desktop screen when you do not use the system?

Method 1:

It might be that you have set some power plan on the system. I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below.

a.       Click on Start menu button and type Power plan in the start search box and press Enter.

b.      In whatever power plan is set on the system, click on the link change plan settings.

c.       Set to Never In the drop down box next to Turn off the display.

Method 2:

Disable sleep mode and check. Follow the steps mentioned below.

a.       Open Power Options by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then clicking Power Options.

b.      On the Select a power plan page, click Change plan settings next to the selected plan.

c.       On the Change settings for the plan page, click Change advanced power settings.

d.      On the Advanced settings tab, double-click Sleep, double-click Sleep after, and then do one of the following:

§ If you're using a laptop, click On battery or Plugged in (or both), click the arrow, and then click Never.

§ If you're using a desktop computer, click Setting, click the arrow, and then click Never.

You can change the power plan or create your own power plan. Check the link mentioned below for further reference.
