Cannot access local host when network cable unplugged

Good day forum,

I do apologize if this has already been posted in another thread - please redirect me if this is so :-)

If a pc is booted up, with either the network cable plugged in or unplugged - right from the start - i can access localhost absolutely fine, but when the network cable is unplugged, while the computer is turned on or plugged in and then unplugged, then localhost cannot be found. It might be worth mentioning that even if I disable/enable the network adapter - it still can't find localhost - I can ping it though.

My eventual problem would be solved (mapping a shared folder on the local machine) if I can fix this (each time...) through vba code, but I take it if I understand more about the problem, i can figure out some type of workaround.

I have read some stuff about a loopback, but it sounds to me that I would need to install extra software - and I would not like to do this as the program would need to be distributed later on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,

I do believe that your query would be best suited for the IT Pro Forums.  They are more geared toward this type of question.
