Hello Vbrijendra,

Thank you for your post.  For some general troubleshooting, please try the steps below and let us know if it did or didn’t help to resolve your problem.\

For Windows 7 & Vista:

First click: Reset Windows Update Components and run the FixIt!  Then follow through with the rest of the troubleshooting steps.

Rename the Software Distribution folder:

Click Start Menu > Type %windir% and Press 'OK'

Locate the SoftwareDistribution folder

Right-click the SoftwareDistribution folder and then right-click > Rename

Type SoftwareDistributionOld Press 'ENTER'

Next, let's try manually installing the update(s):

**Note: If you don’t know the update that is failing to install, the instructions to find out this data is below:

Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update.

On the Windows Update Web page, click View update history.  A window opens that shows all the updates that have been installed or that have failed to install on the computer.

In the Status column of this window, locate the update that failed to install, and then click the red X.

When clicked, a new window will open that displays the installation error code.

Once you have found out the particular update:

Go to the Microsoft Downloads website.  Type in the update number (KBxxxxxx) in the search box and press enter.  Then click on the link for the specific update and click the downloadbutton.  You will get the option to run or save the download, saveit to your PC.  Once it has completed downloading you will get an option to run, open folder, or close.  Make sure all other applications are closed and select the runoption.  (If you close this window or need to attempt to install again, just go to the location the file was saved to and double-click the file.  This will begin the install process again.)

If the manual install fails, try turning off UAC, then attempt the install again.  Click HERE for instructions to turn off UAC.

For XP:

First click: Reset Windows Update Components and run the FixIt!  Then follow through with the rest of the troubleshooting steps.

Rename the Software Distribution folder:

Click Start Menu > Click ‘Run’ > Type %windir% and Press 'OK'

Locate the SoftwareDistribution folder

Right-click the SoftwareDistribution folder and then right-click > Rename

Type SoftwareDistributionOld Press 'ENTER'

This is a long process ... isn't there a simpler and quicker way? For example: could I just uninstall an update, then just re-install it or let Microsoft Windows Update do it for me?

I believe people want it simple and easy.

Microsoft. You have to be kidding! How many innocent victims do you think are going to do this! Write a batch code if you can't fix your own updates and insist upon forcing them on the users>>>>
