Hello Mike,
This is about the Windows Update Error I've been experiencing on my dell laptop.
Minimum information to post:
Vista Business, SP2, 32bit
I'm now having the error while performing "Updates for 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB981715)".
I also had the error a few months back regarding updates for Microsoft Office
**Other information to post:**Steps already taken to correct the issue and the results of the steps: As you suggest, I did CleanBoot and installed microsoft fix, but didn't help much.
If the issue has ever happened before with other updates: As mentioned above, I had similar problem for microsoft office updates.
A couple other helpful pieces are:
What anti-virus program you use, if it is up to date, and if there has ever been any other anti-virus program installed: McAfee, up to date
If your version of Windows was upgraded from a previous version or if it came with (or was clean installed with) the version you are currently running:It came with the current version.
merkin support,
What update is trying to be installed? If there are more than one updates listed, select to update only one at a time and see if you get the error on all updates or only certain ones. Also please look at this thread and post all the requested info: What to post in the Windows Update forum
My laptop is from Dell, and I have same problem showing Code 8007064A.
Is it an HP machine?
If so, I have read (though haven't had personal experience with it) that a particular registry key may be responsible...
The presence of the following registry key seems to cause this kind of error:
**[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\HP_Preload_Dummy]**Do you have this registry key in your machine?
