Deleting a Briefcase

I mistakenly created a Briefcase and want to delete it but need to "close" the open briefcase first.  How do I delete the briefcase once and for all?

Try restarting the computer in safe mode (repeatedly clicking on F8 while booting) and see if you can delete it from there.
