Hi,

Welcome to Microsoft answers.

There was a failure during the initial installation and the installation needs to be repaired before applying the patch.

You need to run Repair first. The Repair option is located on Maintenance page in SQL Server Installation Center.

For more help I suggest you to contact MSDN, and this issue would be better suited in the MSDN community. Please visit the link below to find a community that will offer the best support.

    Hi,

Because of the age of the post you replied to, I would suggest that you post your question in the Microsoft Answer’s Forum with as much detailed information about your issue as possible which will create a new thread. That will allow the entire online community to examine and hopefully provide insight into your issue.

however, I will say sounds like an issue for the msdn forums.

    Hi Azam,

I have this issue while upgrading from SQL Server 2008 to R2 and R2 SP1.

I did try the repair option but of no help with this.

This is still persisting and we couldnt upgrade our servers any further.

Please assist us with this issue.

    Thanks,

    Praneeth
