SHORTCUT KEYS NOT WORKING

Anonymous
2010-05-13T16:35:51+00:00

CTRL + A  and  CTRL + D stopped working in the mail program to Select All and Delete Selected Emails.  These functions work if accessed through EDIT on the TOOLBAR but not if want to use the SHORTCUT KEYS.

Also, BACKSPACE KEY is not functioning on one particular website I access.  The Backspace Arrow in upper left corner functions properly but not the BACKSPACE KEY. This makes browsing very slow and this is a shopping site that you want to be able to browse back and forth easily from a product to it's description and back to the next product.  Oddly enough, this is the only site I have this problem with so I thought the problem was on their end, except my problem with the other SHORTCUT KEYS makes me suspect.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  Would appreciate the help.

Hello Skcp1,

Do the keyboard shortcut keys work outside of your e-mail program?

I suggest you try a different keyboard for testing purposes so we can eliminate hardware issues.

I have included a list of the shortcuts for Windows 7.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/Windows7/Keyboard-shortcuts

I would suggest you run a System File Checker to see if there are any corrupt system files.

Click Start

Type: CMD, from the results, right click CMD

Click 'Run as Administrator'

At the Command Prompt, type: sfc /scannow

This will check for any integrity violations and fix any corrupted operating system files.

Restart your system

Click on the KB article on SFC.

KB Article ID: 929833 - How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7

Please reply back with an update.

Sincerely,

Marilyn

What is the Mail program that you refer to?

What type of Keyboard and Mouse are you using?  Is the Keyboard, Wireless, does it have batteries that are dying?

    Hi Skcp1,

Before we troubleshoot the issue I need more information about the issue you are facing.

    -       Are you using Internet Explorer or any email client to access your e-mail and use shortcut keys?

    -       Which is the particular website that does not allow to use the back space key?

    -       Were you able to use back space key on this website earlier on this computer?

    -       Does Ctrl + A and Ctrl + D key work fine on other programs?

Also access the link to know how to ask a question and post the exact details of your issue.

Post back with the required information.

    Thanks and Regards,
