Hello, I'm a newbie and have a problem.  I can't connect to internet.  According to my internet provider, the problem is that my sm bus controller driver is not installed.  I bought my pc from Dell and had the driver cd rom, so I tried downloading it: it unzips but will not install because the modem is not found.  What can I do?  I have Vista SP1 home premium 32bits with internet explorer.  Can somebody help?

Hi lynplante,

We would like to know more information about the computer. Please answer the following questions as best you can, so that we can assist you better.

  1. How is the computer connected to the Internet? Is it via a router or a modem?
  2. Do you have any security software installed on the computer?

Once the files are unzipped, the driver should be installed successfully. However try downloading the network adapter driver from the Dell website by providing the right system model number and install it successfully.

To download the driver, visit the following website: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19

For your reference, I’m adding a link that talks about “You cannot install a device driver by using its installation program in Windows Vista”: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927524

Hope this information is helpful.

All the best!

Thanks and Regards:
