Configure "status"

Every time I start my computer I get a series of pop up boxes that talk about "please wait while windows configures status" and then one that says "the feature you are trying to use is on a CD Rom, please insert".  I have no clue what this is all about and I have no disk to put in at this prompt?  If I hit the cancel buttons enough times these boxes go away but it is annoying and there appears to be notihing wrong with the operation of the computer after I get rid of the boxes.  Any clue how I stop this from recurring?  Thank you

Hello Donlongley,

This happens if you or someone else have installed a piece of software that needs some additional information that reside on a disk, anyway you can workaround this issue by disabling this software from the start-up.

here is what you need to do, restart your computer as usual and wait for that message to come up, now try to recognize the name of this software and write it down. (its ok if you can't get a name).

Now remove it from the Start Up items by doing the following:

  1. Press the windows Start button and choose Run or (press the "WindowsLogo + R" on your keyboard)
  2. Type "msconfig"  without quotes of course, in the text box and hit enter or press ok.
  3. If you are running vista the System Configuration Utility may ask you for permission, click on Continue.
  4. Once the System Configuration Utility has started, click on the Start Up tab.
  5. Disable all the softwares that you do not want to be on the start up.
  6. Click ok and restart your computer, that prompt will be history now  : )

Many thanks to Alaa Ajweh for helping me solve my problem. I was able to go to my list of start ups and disable them one by one until I found the one that was causing error messages to pop up every time I started my computer. You rock! Don

Hmmm...followed advice and see there are lots of things on the startup list and I don't know which one is causing the problem and thus not sure which to disable.  Also..the third popup says "an installation package for the product Status cannot be found. Try again using a valid copy the installation package status.msi". Does that help indentify which of the startup items to disable?
