Hi 88Ben,

The error code 711 message appears when a required service isn't started on your computer. You won't be able to connect to a network or Internet.

This problem can occur if some or all of the following services aren't started:

·         Plug and Play

·         Remote Access Auto Connection Manager

·         Remote Access Connection Manager

·         Telephony

To fix this problem, follow these steps for each of the services listed above:

1.     Open Administrative Tools by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type administrative tools, and then click Administrative Tools.‍ If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

2.     Double-click Services. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

3.     Right-click one of the services listed above and click on Properties.

4.     Click the General tab, and then, next to Startup type, select Manual.

5.     Click Apply, and then click Start.

For more information about the error access the link below:

    Guys,

I've tried this and all the other solutions being offered for the 711 error.  I cannot get the Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol to stay turned on.  As a result, I can't get this error to go away.

Microsoft seems to have a bug on its hands as I'm seeing this error, described many different ways, on lots of threads.

Any ideas how to do this?

If you find that Remote Access Connection Manager will not start, check the Secure Sockets Transfer Protocol (SSTP) Service.

If you find that the SSTP service will not start, try the following:

Locate the Windows\System32\Logfiles\WMI\RtBackup directory. Under Properties -> Security (as admin user), ensure the Administrators group has Full Control permissions. If not, assign it. Now check the SSTP service again, and if it isn't already started, start it, and most likely your problem will disappear.

You might also have noticed that the events logs couldn't be accessed, which resulted from the same issue.
