I am using Windows 7 x64 as well and when I open an Excel document that is somewhere in the middle of my screen, it creates a hidden temperary Excel file on the left side and this file is removed when I close the original document. The original document remains in it's original location.
Excel documents keep moving on desktop
I am running Windows 7 64-bit, all recent updates installed, but this will probably work on most Windows 7 machines.
I do not have an English version of Windows, but i'll try to explain reproduction.
I like my desktop icons to be organized, so i do not use auto arrange. I group icons in my own specific way. The left side of my screen is almost empty. My problem is that when i edit an Excel document that resides on the desktop, the icon moves to the default (left side) location of the screen. Here's how:
- On your desktop, turn off Auto Arrange. (right click on desktop -> menu "view" -> item "auto arrange")
- On your desktop right click somewhere on the right side of the screen and create a new Excel document. (right click on desktop -> menu "new" -> item "Microsoft Excel-document")
- Make sure the new document is NOT on the default location (left side) of the screen. If it is, goto 1 or try to drag it to the right side of the screen. :)
- Open the Excel document you just created, and save it (with or without editing). (saving with CTRL+S, so NOT "Saving as...").
- View your desktop again by closing or minimizing the Excel document. The icon has moved to the default icon location.
I have tried this with other documents, but only Excel documents seem to be moving

2012-08-09T08:46:26+00:00 This is exactly what happens. If you update your file it will be the tempfile which will be promoted to the new file. Meaning relocation of icon occurs. pfffffff
