Cannot activate Windows XP on a Virtual Machine...

I just installed Windows XP on a virtual machine using Microsoft Virtual PC. However, when I try to activate the system, I get a message that online activation isn't available at this time. I have tried using a shared(NAT) network with the host computer, and using the Wireless adapter with the Virtual PC. And with both I can connect to the internet successfully and browse the web, yet whenever I try to activate it stays at checking for connectivity.

Use the telephone activation option instead. If the automatic telephone option fails, wait for a human to come online. Since the Product Key for the XP you installed in the virtual machine isn't being used anywhere else (this is correct?), the human will activate your installation.
