Offline files problem in win7 "the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"

I just clean installed  windows 7 enterprise on my laptop.   I was using XP and syncing few folders on my network drive (samba) and everything worked fine.

After upgrade I choose "always available offline" on these folders but I get this error on most of the files (few hundreds) ""the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."

What could be the problem?

The quote I got back from Microsoft was "it will be fixed in windows server 2012 and windows 8 clients but there are no plans to sort it out in win 7 clients and server 2008".

I am in the process of upgrading my servers to 2012 and will test again against both win7 and win8.1 clients.

I've got exactly the same problem inside the same scenario of Pat Drolet.

is it possible to have a solution from anyone of Microsoft ?

I'm starting to think that this behavior is a bug of Windows 7

I have the exact same issue with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.  The server is non-Windows (Samba 3.4.3) and simply part of a workgroup.  XP works fine.

    Thank you for your answer.

In this case it does not work.  I still get these errors "the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.".

I made a new DWORD (32bit) = EnableOplocks and put the value to "1" in registry.

    Restart.

I unclicked the folder with "always available offline"

    restart

clicked on the folder and made it "always available offline"

    The errors popup again.

I´m not on a domain. I connect to a network drive, the fileserver is not windows.

    Hi,

Is your computer on a domain?

This error can occur because Opportunistic locking is not enabled.

You may enable the same from registry editor.

Important: This post contains information about how to modify the registry. Make sure that you back up the registry before you modify it. Make sure that you know how to

restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up, restore, and modify the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the

    Microsoft Knowledge Base:

    Back up the registry

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-the-registry

To enable opportunistic locking from registry editor:

    1.  Go to start and type regedit.exe in the search field.

    2.  Select regedit.exe from the list.

    3.  Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters4. Change the value of the REG_DWORD EnableOplocks from 0 to 1 (enabled).

Reboot your computer and retry your offline files synchronization. You should be good to go from here.
