For anyone having this problem, the solution is simple:  Flight Simulator requires msxml 4.0 in order to install properly and fuction.  If you go to www.microsoft.com/downloads and search on MSXML 4.0 you will find the latest install for this component (the pages keep changing, so rather than providing a link that will soon be broken, I'll let you just search for it).  Click the download button for msxml.msi, follow the simple instructions to install it on your machine, and then try your Flight Simulator install again.  I tried this last night and everything worked as expected.  Flight Simulator installed correctly on my machine, and it is now working great.

I hope this helps someone out there...

    Hi,

Follow the below steps and check if the issue persists.

    Step 1:

I would suggest you to check whether the Windows Installer Service is running in Services.msc window.

    a. Click On start; In the Start search, type Services.msc and Hit Enter.

    b. Right click on Windows Installer and click on Start (Only if the Service has stopped).

Restart the computer and try to installing the game.

    Step 2:

    a. Uninstall or completely remove FSX(Flight simulator X)

    b. Insert DVD-1 and go to SDK folder and run setup.exe

    c. After it's done, we need to install SimConnect manual, to do this

    d. Go to 'Program Files' folder

    e. Go to 'Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\lib'

    f. Run SimConnect.msi

    g. After that done, Install the game as normal (Run setup.exe from DVD1)

    Regards post from Azeez N above;

Followed your steps and when I run SimConnect.msi in step "f" I get the following error.

    Microsoft FlightSimulator SimConnect Client v10.0.60906.0

An error occurred during the installation of assembly "Microsoft FlightSimulator.SimConnect, version="10.0.60905.0", type="win32", processorArchitecture="x86", publickey Token="67c7c14424d6165b".

    Any suggestion?

FYI  I'm running Windows 8 Pro

    Hi Best,

The Software Development Kit (SDK) is a set of development tools which allow you to develop, create or modify content for the simulation. SDKs are available for each of the versions of FS(Flight Simulator). The SDK is actually a collection of task-oriented SDKs. There is no single tool that you run, rather it's collection of tools, each of which perform seperate tasks. Some of these SDK tools will call other SDK tools. The majority of tools are stand-alone, and launched outside of the Simulator.

Depending on version, a few tools are launchable from the in-flight menu.

Setup.exe are the program files that initiate the installation of a program. Exe program - Files with an extension of "exe" are executable programs. The purpose of this file can vary greatly, as it is a common name used by many software vendors for installing new software or updates. Setup.exe and install.exe are very commonly used.

Since, it has not resolved the issue for you, I'd have you do the following.

    Step 1:

Right click on game setup.exe and run as administrator.

    Step 2:

Put the computer in clean boot and then try to install the game.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7**http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135**

Note: Do not forget to restart your computer as usual by following step 7 after installing the game.

    Hello, many thanks for that.

I did Step 1, a,b and in Step 2- I am not sure what you call SDK. I went into the DVD 1 and run setup.exe but after waiting for a long time the window of FSX comes out and it tells me to press Install. But i did not press that (since i think that will just start simply installation as i had done before) and instead i went to your proposed step 2c.

Went to Programm Files/Mircosoft Games/Flight Simulator X but then I see no file called SDK, or Core Utilities kit or SimConnect SDK - actually there is a file called Mircosoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect.dll but this is an Application extension so if i click on it, it says if i continue it my damage my PC , and if i continue it says Open with , but then i am not sure what to do. Also i dont see any msi file.

Is there any other file i should be looking for? and/or is there a difference when you say 'go to SDK and run setup.exe' and when you say at the end run setup.exe (directly) from DVD1? What is SDK?

The folders into DVD 1 are Extras, Fonts, program files, SXS adn then 19 ziped files called D1Fea~1, D1Fea~2 etc until 19.

Thanks once more for giving me a few more tips to see how i continue after being in the flight Simulator X folder.

    Best
