I got a PHONIC USB-MIDI INTERFASE (MIDI HUB), which work fine under Windows XP because the generic USB driver that install on it works. The thing is that now i got a Windows 7 64 bits. and i could not install this interface for my keyboard. I already check with the PHONIC company and they don't have a driver for Windows 7. So what coul i do, its possible to install the Generic drivers of Windows XP to Windows 7. I already check and mi device works fine on XP but on Windows 7, I got this error Mensagge "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". Please help me.

If they have drivers for Vista 64 bit, you can use them.  Otherwise, try XP Mode: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/

The Roland driver worked for me as well!!

I am going to list steps, as some of it was unclear for me.

    Steps taken:

    1. download the Roland UM 1G driver from Roland's website.
    2. run setup (mine was win7 x64).
    3. install the driver when prompted.
    4. after installation wizard asks you to connect the device you may exit the installation but take not: DO NOT execute the uninstall.exe.
    5. go to Device Manager
    6. right click on  the "usb audio device" (or something of the sort) and choose the option: update driver software/browse my computer for software/let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
    7. from here untick supported drivers and select the UM 1G driver.

    Thats it!

    I hope it helps you!!

    Hi,

I installed the Roland UM1G driver for use of the Phonix usb to midi and it worked for me. Same windows and device so maybe try again and check if your sequencer settings are right. Good luck!

Hi Sequel, did you ever get this working?

I tried to use the XP Mode mentioned in the reply, but this didnt work for a variety of reasons. To begin with, I followed all the directions, actived hardware virtualization in my bios (was supported), downloaded and ran the appropriate XP mode steup (WindowsXPMode_en-us.exe), but did not get any shortcut in my start menu to so as to be able to go on and use it. The XP mode files are present on my hard drive in C:\Program Files\Windows XP Mode, but there is no way to actually run it or use it. No matter though, cause on the site about XP mode it states:

    • Some hardware and devices that work in Windows 7 might not work inWindows XP Mode. They might not be detected in Windows XP Mode.
    • Windows XP Mode was primarily designed to help businesses move fromWindows XP to Windows 7. It isn't optimized for graphic-intensive programs such as 3D games, nor is it well suited for programs with hardware requirements such as TV tuners.
    • If you're playing music or video in Windows XP Mode using Windows Media Player, and you maximize or minimize the Windows XP Mode window,Windows Media Player will stop playing. This is due to the way Windows XP Mode works in Windows 7. To resume playback, click thePlay button ![](http://res2.windows.microsoft.com/resbox/en/Windows 7/main/0/c/0c18c057-604b-4425-bec3-fd2797320693/0c18c057-604b-4425-bec3-fd2797320693.jpg) in Windows Media Player.

All of which make it unlikley that you will be able to use all your audio software and hardware smoothly in XP mode. As the Phonic Midid interface is used in conjunction with the rest of ones audio production hardware and software, if even one thing wont work perfectly and with no extra latency due to use of XP mode, its all rendered pratically useless. Also, the way XP mode works, its not like you can just use this driver in XP mode and the rest of your stuff in windows 7. You'd probably have to resinstall everything (audio software) in XP mode. If you have a large complex set up with lots of plug-ins, organized and what have you, this will take a week to set up (at least for me it will) and is totally impractical. Much easier and better to just go and install it all under a fresh XP installation, which is not a solution to a win7 problem, but more akin to giving up ever solving it.

So the problem remains. This Phonic Midi hub does not actually come with any drivers, I guess it uses the default windows midi drivers (?) or something, there are no drivers available on the site either, even though its not discontinued or anything, this is a current product. On the box it says: No drivers required to operate.

I tried a few of the other drivers offered as workarounds on other win7 midi problem related threads, and even though one seemed to work, installing without error (roland UM1G Windows 7 64 bit driver), I didnt actually get and notes coming through. It showed up in cubase, but no midi, no notes, no sound, no working. The rest of my setup and all my equipment works fine in XP, this is a windows 7 (64 Bit) only problem.

Any help appreciated, all obvious options have already been tried, so please dont suggest resintalling all my USB devices or anythign like that, those where the first things I tried.

    Thnx!
