Problems with Agere Win Modem

Hi!  I installed the release candidate on my 5 year old desktop (2.8ghz, 256mb radeon, 1.5gb ram) and it runs fine... except for everytime I try and send a fax, I can't.  I open Windows Scan and Fax, click on new fax, and try to "connect to a fax modem," but then an error message pops up: "An error occurred.  Please try the operation later or contact your administrator."  I went to the device manager and checked to see if my Agere Win Modem was installed with all the drivers, and it is.  I then installed MSN (which my granparents use), to test out if the modem could be reached and it was just a problem with Windows Fax and Scan.  MSN couldn't find the modem either.  What am I doing wrong??  The fax worked perfectly before when I had XP on it, so I'm figuring it's a conflict between windows 7 and the modem.  Are there any known solutions?

Thank you for using Microsoft Answers forums.   I suggest downloading and installing the latest drivers for your modem.  Go to the manufactures web site and download the drivers for your system.  If they do not have drivers for Windows 7 try the drivers for Vista.  Most hardware and drivers that worked with Vista will work with Windows 7.    Thank you for your time and efforts in evaluating Windows 7.
