Cannot delete a file or change permission, command prompt says "cannot find specified path"

I'm trying to delete a folder called SoftGrid Client from my public folder. I'm not sure what the file is but its in my public folder, which I never use, and is over 1GB. When I try and delete it it says I need permission from administrators to make changes to the file. I am the only user on this computer, and the administrator.

I tried to change the permissions from the properties/security tab, but it said access is denied.

I ran the command prompt as administrator and tried using takeown to change ownership but it said the system cannot find the specified path for the file SoftGrid Client. So I tried using the path of the public folder where the SoftGrid folder is located and the /R command which instructs tool to operate on files in the directory and subdirectory, which seemed to work.

Then I used CACLS to grant user rights for the public folder where SoftGrid is located, which also seemed to work.

Now the SoftGrid folder has the username as the only one with full access right to the folder, but not the folders or files inside. I still cannot delete them.

How do I delete the folder, and why can't windows find the path for that folder? Should I even care about deleting it, is it a harmful folder?

Hi,

The following procedure describes how to remove a specific application package from the SoftGrid cache on a client PC.

a. Open the SoftGrid Client Management Console (e.g., Start à Settings à Control Panel à Administrative Tools à SoftGrid Client Management).

b. Select the Application(s) object in the left window panel.

c. I - Right-click on the name of the application that you want to remove from the cache and select Unload from the drop-down menu. This maintains the application shortcuts and file associations.

or

II- Right-click on the name of the application that you want to remove completely and select Delete from the drop-down menu.

Note: You must have administrative rights on the client PC to fully remove the application from the SoftGrid client cache. If a user that lacks administrative rights the “Unload” and “Delete” commands will not be available. A non-administrator will have the option to “Clear” an application which will remove the program shortcuts and file types for the current user.

    Hi Diana

can you please advise what this SoftGrid software does and why it is so resource intensive?

I've had my laptop since november, rarely (maybe once a month on average) use Microsoft office apps, yet the SFTFS.FSD file in the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Application Virtualization Client\SoftGrid Client folder is now at 773Mb and growing. Soon it will consume my hard drive and possibly the whole world after that.

    Thanks

    Sig
