Can't install the update - Windows 7 (KB974431) Error Code 80070570

On logon says to run chkdsk - how do you do it in Windows 7?

Base  device drivers missing (2) in device manager

CD/DVD drive will not read disk

Media Player inoperable

Windows for home | Previous Windows versions | Windows update

You can download these updates as standalone packages and install them.

Download  the following update manually from the link below:

Update for Windows 7 (KB974431) for 32 bit editions:

Update for Windows 7 for 64- bit based Systems (KB974431):

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=5A058F6F-C3D3-4CBB-8C6C-AC76C94D3D0E&displaylang=en

An update is available to improve the stability and reliability of Windows 7:

Step 2.

Once the download completes close *all* open programs and browsers (including antivirus).

Now try to install the updates

    I have the same problem.. getting error code 80070570 on installing windows 7 update sp1

    I tried the steps you mention but both links says "update already installed on this computer"

    so no good for me...
