"WindowsUpdate_8E5E0442" error

Hey all,

Today's update for Vista Ultimate 64 was the "Security Update for ActiveX Killbits for Windows Vista for x64-based systems (KB948881)". It will not install on my machine. It displays the following:

"WindowsUpdate_8E5E0442" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"

"Windows Update encountered an unknown error."

Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi AmericanGrimoire,

  Please take a look at the TechNet thread in the link below, specifically the steps posted by Ronnie Vernon in the second post that is marked as the answer.  Following the steps listed fixed the issue with the error code you are getting for a lot of people in the thread.  Please let us know if this does not resolve the issue for you or if you have any other questions.  Thank you.
