Recent files missing from Documents Library

My documents library currently contains only one location:

C:\users\peter\documents

If I save a word document in that directory, it always correctly shows up in that directory, but does not always show up in the documents library. For example, a document I created yesterday still doesn't appear in the library, although the files created last week and previously are there.  Today I created three files test1.docx, test2.docx and test3.docx. One showed up after a few minutes, one showed up immediately, and the latest does not show up at all, although the ~$ version is there.

I have tried a scan - no problems. I have tried deleting and creating the document library - no difference. This is a new machine with an Intel solid state drive if that makes any difference.Only one user.

Any ideas? I'm suspecting some sort of indexing issue.

I have experienced this same problem with various file types in various created libraries.

I have found a solution that is both simple and effective and does not involve the need to change the Library view to one that is not appropriate for your content.

The basic instruction is to hide all subfolders and files within the included folder, and then to unhide them. I use this method when newly added items are not being displayed within the Library and periodically for all media Libraries to ensure consistency. If, after hiding files and folders, you are unable to see them to change the properties back to unhide, please follow previous instruction to 'show hidden files and folders'

    Detailed instruction:

    1. Using Windows Explorer, click 'Computer' and navigate to the location of the Library (included folder/s).
    2. Right click the folder and select properties
    3. Under 'Attributes' check the 'Hidden' tick box. Press Apply
    4. When prompted, choose the 'Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files' radio button. Press OK
    5. After attributes have been applied, unselect the 'Hidden' check box and hit apply again.
    6. Choose 'Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files' and press OK
    7. Press OK to close out of properties.

All content should now be visible in the Library. Pip Pip, Hurray!

If this method does/does not work for you please drop a post and let me know!

.... how is that simpler than changing the folder view and changing it back to the way you like it? lol

One update here - if I "arrange by folder" then all files are visible in the documents library. Any other sort and some files remain missing.

    >>Does this only occur with word documents?

No, there is a powerpoint (.pptx) file from a week ago that is not showing up either. There is nothing different I see about the missing files - it just seems random.

It's 64-bit windows if that makes any difference.
